Mondays	3:30 - 5 pm	Pokémon Trading Card Game. Starting back up on January 22nd. It is a great tool for developing mathematical, strategic, and social skills while having fun! No cards or experience required for participation. Attendees will receive points for showing up, playing, and for completing other activities! Points can be traded in for cards and other prizes. For ages 8-14. Reminder: if there is not school, Pokeman will not meet that day. Any questions should be directed to Chase Uy (chase@eaglehill.us).
Wednesdays	10:30 am	Yoga Class. The instructor is Paul Nix, a teacher with 20+ years teaching experience. Classes are intended for any experience level and designed to be co-ed. He practices basic Hatha yoga, focusing on alignment, breathing, holding poses for 5-6 breaths. The goal is for you to be more relaxed when leaving the class than when you arrived. You will need a yoga mat.
Wednesdays	1 – 3 pm	Mahjong. Come enjoy a friendly game of Mahjong.
Wednesdays	2 – 4 pm	Craft and Chat. Come enjoy good company, work on a project, or play cribbage. Mahjong is also available if there are at least 3 players.
Ongoing	During Library hours	Art in the Library. We are excited to have Jaye Orgera as our Featured Artist for the month of May. Jaye moved with her two daughters to Steuben in 1996 and rented an office in Ellsworth. She met Sarah Morton of Union River Gallery and Sarah, Rosemary Levin and Cathy Brann got her started on her artist journey. Jaye started taking lessons at adult ed with Philip Frey and Rebekah Raye, who are well known Maine artists. When Orgera retired after an illness, she spent winters in Santa Fe with her daughters and took many classes at the amazing Santa Fe Community College and the very amazing Santa Fe Art Institute. Her work is a mix of watercolor, gouache, Cray-Pas, watercolor crayon (her favorite), acrylic and printmaking. Jaye loves landscapes, but says “usually my angst is too high for that.” Mostly she scribbles, usually is surprised by what comes out and is not bored yet. Jaye says “I thank my teachers and fellow artists who inspire me and Mary Evelyn who taught me how to frame for myself. I love color and Maine has wonderful light.” Her show is available for viewing during library hours.
May 3rd	4:30 pm	Concert and Dinner Benefit hosted by Eagle Hill Institute. The Evening will begin with a wine and cheese social time starting at 4:30, followed by the concert at 5:30 featuring Brian Stewart and Leonore Hildebrandt. As a folk duo with a jazzy vibe, Leonore and Brian write, arrange, and play their own songs. They have performed over many years and recorded several albums. Brian plays piano and guitar, Leonore plays percussion and guitar, and they both sing. Their song lyrics are thoughtful and fun. Both live with their families in Harrington, where they built their own houses and grow lovely gardens. Following the concert, an elegant buffet style meal will take place in the Eagle Hill dining room with two entree choices - meat and vegetarian. The ticket price for the evening is $40 per person (with an option to make an additional donation) and all proceeds will go to the library/community center. Reservations are required and can be made by contacting Eagle Hill at https://eaglehill.us/programs/music/steuben-library. It should be a delightful evening and a wonderful way to support the library.
May 17th	6 pm	Movie Night. "Migration". 2023. PG. 1 hr. 22 min. A family of ducks decides to leave the safety of a New England pond for an adventurous trip to Jamaica. However, their well-laid plans quickly go awry when they get lost and wind up in New York City. The experience soon inspires them to expand their horizons, open themselves up to new friends, and accomplish more than they ever thought possible. This animated film looks like a lot of fun!!Free. Refrsheshments sold by donation to support children's programming.
May 21st	9 am to 3 pm	Program for Homeschooling Families.Island Readers & Writers and the Henry D. Moore Library invite homeschooling families to spend the day with author and naturalist Kim Ridley and her picture book The Secret Stream to explore the language of science. Young writers will get the chance to learn how to use observations and noticing to write exciting hooks about organisms in and around streams. Weather permitting we’ll get outside to have hands-on experiences! This is a wonderful opportunity for homeschooling families to experience an IRW author presentation and workshop outside of a school setting. Each child will receive a copy of The Secret Stream, signed by Kim. Recommended for ages 7–11.
